Yom HaShoah, or Holocaust Remembrance Day, is scheduled for April 16 at 3:45 p.m. in Congregation Albert, 3800 Louisiana Boulevard NE, Albuquerque. Themed A Continuum of Remembrance, the commemoration, open to the community, will focus on honoring local survivors. New Mexico Human Rights Projects (NMHRP) and the New Mexico Holocaust & Intolerance Museum (NMHIM) have partnered with Congregation Albert to ensure that the Holocaust is never forgotten.

“This observance represents the importance and power of sharing memories of the last generation of Holocaust survivors with the next generation,” said Regina Turner, event chair and founder and executive director of the NMHRP. “Memory inspires us to make a better world,” she added.

Students will light the menorah candles in memory of the six million who perished in the Holocaust. Congregation Albert Rabbi Celia Surget will conduct the service, and personal memories will be shared by survivors Raya Kovensky and Andre Holten. The program also will feature musical selections by the Congregation Albert Choir.
