The New Mexico Holocaust Museum and Gellert Center for Education (NMHM) is partnering with the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) to offer a daylong workshop March 4 on teaching the Holocaust with a focus on state standards. It will be held in the Jewish Community Center of Greater Albuquerque, 5520 Wyoming Blvd. NE in Albuquerque from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Using curriculum from Echoes & Reflections, this opportunity will give participants useful techniques needed to teach the complex issues of the Holocaust and how these issues relate to the present. Educators will examine how lessons from history can instill the importance of civic action in young people from all backgrounds. Justice, intolerance, and the importance of democratic liberties are topics to be explored.
Teachers may register at https://nmholocaustmuseum.org/er-workshop-03-23/ until 9 p.m. on Sunday, February 26.
Echoes & Reflections is a joint venture of the Anti-Defamation League, the USC Shoah Foundation, and Yad Vashem in Jerusalem.
