Hate in America

Created in 2018 (updated in 2020) to accompany the exhibit Hate in America at the New Mexico Holocaust & Intolerance museum, this video tells the powerful stories behind contemporary hate and intolerance. By examining the dangers of being a bystander in the face of oppression and bullying, Hate in America shows how each one of us can embrace being an upstander, someone who speaks out when confronted with injustice. The video shows individual stories and personal experiences, as well as looking at the larger cultural and societal movements of organized hate and discrimination that are on the rise. Hate crimes and violence toward people of color, the Jewish community, Muslims, the LGBTQAI+ community, and others are increasing. This video asks, how do you define an Upstander?

This video accompanies the interactive exhibit Hate in America on display at NMHIM.
